Ligue 1: PSG aren’t refereed the same as other teams, says Bedouet

Eric Bedouet’s side became the first team this season to take points off the Ligue 1 champions on Sunday

Bordeaux manager Eric Bedouet has suggested that referees are guilty of refereeing PSG matches differently to others.

Thomas Tuchel’s side dropped points for the first time this season as Les Girondins held them to a 2-2 draw at Matmut Atlantique on Sunday.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe both netted for the Ligue 1 champions, who were fresh from a morale boosting victory over Liverpool in the Champions League last Wednesday.

Neymar’s strike was given the all clear to be awarded after a VAR check to see whether Mbappe was in an offside position when the Brazilian struck towards goal.

But former Cardiff City striker Andreas Cornelius netted a late equaliser for Bordeaux, who are now 11th in Ligue 1.

After the game, Bedouet said VAR is starting to ‘tire’ him and claimed that PSG are given special treatment by referees.

“I have said it before … They are not refereed in the same way as others,” Bedouet claimed.

“I heard the other coach (Thomas Tuchel) complained but I think it’s too much.

“VAR is starting to tire me! It takes too much time to make decisions. On the first goal, he is embarrassed (Mbappe) and he is offside!”

It is the second time in the space of a few days that the refereeing decisions in PSG’s favour have been brought into question, after Liverpool were left feeling hard done by following their Champions League loss at the Parc des Princes last week.

The Bordeaux boss was delighted with his side’s application against the Ligue 1 leaders and believes his side deserve credit for coming from behind to level the scoring in the match on two separate occasions.

“It was a very good match, I’m happy with my team, it was not easy, the slightest mistake and you are punished,” he added.

“We came back twice, against a team like PSG, that’s not easy.

“We did everything well except on Kylian Mbappe’s goal where we were too attracted to the goal. We did not have security, but we made a solid match with a full stadium.”
